As a quick new year post, let me share the three habits that I want to work on building in 2020; and as I share mine, feel free to share yours in the comments section below, so we can root for each other.
While some of these are things I’ve done in the past and I want to bring with me into the new year, a couple of these are brand new.
First up is journaling. This is something I do off and on. And when I’m doing it consistently, I feel so good. So I don’t know why I ever stop. This is something I’d love to really commit to in the new year, and make journaling part of my morning routine. I’m very much a multi-tasker, and when I’m journaling, I feel like I take a pause. I focus on just that, and it helps me to organize my thoughts so I have a more focused day. It takes off a little bit of the pressure. If I miss a day, I don’t feel quite as bad. It starts off with an area to write your energy and why you feel that way, and then it goes right into your top project of the day. I’m hoping by sharing my own experience, I can help you guys, and we can work together to put into place the habits and systems in our life to have a really successful 2020.
Next up is to budget. I mean at the end of the day, we all need to budget our expenses in our routines. When I am budgeting consistently, which I’ve been doing for quite some time now, it’s one of those keystone habits that affects positively on many other areas of my life. I have less stress, I’m not worried about paying bills, and I’m less worried about emergencies. I have a deeper relationship with my family because when we’re budgeting, we’re thinking about the future, we’re making goals, and we’re communicating more. And if I’m being true to my budget, I am eating out less and hopefully being a little bit healthier by cooking food myself. Budgeting also gives me room for spontaneous fun. If you’re looking for ways to be more consistent with your budget, the absolute easiest is just to check it every single day. It’s a part of my morning routine. I feel really good when I open it up, and I make sure that everything is looking good. Then the second step is that when you’re out and about shopping, pull up the mobile app and check that category to make sure you have enough funds. When I started doing that, that’s when I felt like I started getting a lot of traction and making a lot of progress.
Number three on the list I think is going to be the one that takes the most effort on my part, and that is to be active. I’ve always told myself, “I’m not really a gym person, that’s not my scene. I’m just kind of weak, it is what it is.” But a while back, I made some really good friends in the community I live in, and most of them are fitness freaks, which really intrigued me. So I joined in into their group exercise regimes, and I plan to continue in it in 2020. Working out with friends feels a lot different than actually going to the gym and putting in the work all alone. It’s all about the mindset you’re in. When you workout and socialize at the same time, it becomes like a natural thing that you do and enjoy. So I’m hoping that I’m going to get a lot stronger in 2020.
I hope you enjoyed reading about the habits I’m going to be working on. I would love to know which ones are you going to focus on in 2020. I wish you all the best in the new year.
